Catstooth

May 24, 2017

Since the Catstooth pattern was so much fun to stitch (and a great learning challenge for straight lines and french knots) I thought I would post it here if anyone else wanted to give it a go.

How I recommend it work is trace the black and white line art onto your fabric, and use that for the main body of the design. All the other details – eyes and tail – are over the top. Use the color image for your reference and guide.

Houndstooth = Catstooth?

I can’t be the only person who has looked at a houndstooth pattern and see little cats, can I? I mean, it even has ears!

Right?

RIGHT?!

Wisteria

May 19, 2017

Wisteria bloom around this time in my part of Japan, early to mid May. They smell wonderful, and are home to an absolute ton of bumble bees. There are trellised walkways and coverings everywhere, growing with vines that have gotten so big they’re like tree trunks. It’s a great place to go have a can of coffee and relax.

Illustrating Ceiling Tiles

May 15, 2017

If you’ve seen my post about documenting the history of Shonenji, you know I love these pieces of art so much. I decided it would be fun to vector the designs on the tiles, and hopefully learn more advanced techniques while I’m at it.
