How To: Japanese Cord Embroidery

Cords are a very important part of Japanese embroidery motifs. They hang from fans, tie up bags, and flow around in the wind. Despite how difficult they look, they are very easy to do once you get the hang of it.

The cord is a modified X stitch, or cross stitch, in which you overlap them as you go. It’s also a very useful technique for corset flossing or just adding some texture to printed fabric.
