Every year, I like to do a piece of holiday art (or two, or three) to get me in the spirit of the season. It’s nice, too, when you’re lacking inspiration, to have a topic to focus on, and who am I kidding? I’ll look for any excuse to draw moogles doing silly things.
This time, I made the moogles a bit fluffier than I usually do, and I think I like this style! I might draw some more of the “dress up moogles” but with this more fluffy face look. I also got an excuse to do more without using heavy lineart. This has been a goal of mine for a while now, to either make the lineart more subtle, or to be able to do art without it at all. I’ll have to post my Fat Cat Calendar soon, as that is where I think I really got this style down. It is fun, and I’m glad I could also make it look a little like cut paper. I applied a craft paper texture over each main piece to make it really pop.
These 3D paper cards or display pieces (regularly called “paper theater”) are really popular here in Japan, and I’ve always wanted to try making one, maybe I will pick one up the next time I’m at the mall!
Of course, I also did a version of it without the texture, that I used for making things like t-shirts and blankets with this design on, if anyone wants their own happy moogles on products.
